SEPTEMBER TEST DAY, COLLABORATION AND DEDICATION

[Charlotte, NC] Nothing quite starts the year like testing last year’s car! Our 2023 IC Formula SAE car hit the pavement last week and it was a great time to show our new members what FSAE is all about. This short but crucial test provided valuable information to each subteam that they can incorporate into their work for the 2024 car

Both the skidpad and autocross test showed a lot of promise. The layout of both mimics what we see at our Formula SAE competition each May, so it is important to do trial runs under those parameters to give us the best data and scenarios possible.

The revolving set of drivers felt comfortable in the seat, and the car only got better with educated adjustments. Team leaders and members were able to see the car become faster with every little change.

None of this would be accomplished without the dedication of every team member who showed up at 7 a.m. on a Sunday. The team’s growing success is a reflection of the level of maturity, comprehension, and teamwork 49ers Racing demonstrates every day. The engineering students absorbed and applied data in real-time with driver input, while the business/marketing subteam produced a record amount of photos and videos together including drone shots thanks to Jack Hutchby, a friend of the team. Even when the inevitable problems arose, everyone was quick to fix them as soon as possible without alarm.

Looking forward, a lot was learned from this test that the engineers are looking to into extensively. Debates on specifics have been discussed exhaustively regarding changes for future designs, and they will remain that way for the foreseeable future.
